About Pat Forbes
In 2001 Pat Forbes relocated her studio from the Washington, D.C. area to Albuquerque, New Mexico, the land of Enchantment. In the past she has lived and worked in Paris, France, East Lansing, Michigan and Munich, Germany, and, most recently, in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Pat majored in art at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, Virginia and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She created her own junior year abroad to study art at the College Art Study Abroad program in Paris, France. Pat works primarily in acrylics and has explored that medium on surfaces varying from canvas to paper, to furniture, to wood panels and metal. Currently she is creating abstract wall pieces where she applies wide varieties of colored and patterned paper shapes of varying transparencies to reflective, textured surfaces. Working backwards in time, Pat created Uppity Art! For this use of acrylics she designs linear and curvilinear three-dimensional sculptural shapes from wood panels or metal that she then paints. The resulting upright “Uppity Art!” pieces are an enjoyable painting expression for Pat and delightful whimsical visual experiences for viewers. Pat’s colors, compositions and mediums emerge from her choosing to consciously employ the concept of serendipity: a gift of finding something good accidentally. She says, “I find that painting reflects my life-view – joyful, spiritual and filled with expected serendipity.” Even while working in this manner allows Pat to continue to grow and expand, people find that her energetic and boldly colorful style is always immediately recognizable. Most recently she was selected as Best Local Artist for 2007 by ALBUQUERQUE THE MAGAZINE. She was the featured artist for this magazine in April 2007. In October of 2006, Pat was on HGTV’s “That’s Clever!” a daily half hour show bringing cool art from around the country into viewer’s living rooms. Pat’s work has been exhibited extensively on the East Coast and in the Southwest and is held in private collections throughout the country. Her work is available at the PatricianDesign/Caliente It’s Hot! Gallery, 216 Gold Avenue SW in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and at Occasions! By Design Gallery, 4223 Marshall Way, Studio B, in Scottsdale, Arizona. |
