About Pat

Patricia Forbes New Mexico abstract artist, Patricia Forbes' current acrylic work reflects the theme "Outer Space...perhaps Inner Space". This expresses her current spiritual desire to live by following inspiration, and it speaks to the paradoxes of our outer worlds reflecting our inner worlds.

Visually she shows this as abstract shapes floating and interacting in wide-open spaces. Some pieces have a meditative or Zen-like quality. Others are quite whimsical or evoke fantasy worlds. She has a personal and unique sensitivity to color that shows in her work.

She describes her process by saying "I work with layers of acrylic paint and materials to create a metallic textured background over which I apply more layers of paper and acrylic until I like the composite effect. The result is shimmering, richly textured, richly patterned, color infused work".

Before moving to Albuquerque in 2001, she lived and worked in the Washington DC area. She studied art at Mary Baldwin College, Staunton, Virginia and in Paris, France.

Her work is available at occasions! by design in Scottsdale, Arizona, Patrician Design in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and at opusArte in Kansas City, Missouri.

Most recently, Patricia was juried into 18 DAYS at Munoz Waxman Gallery in Santa Fe. She is featured in Nancy Reyner's book, ACRYLIC INNOVATION: STYLES & TECHNIQUES FEATURING 64 VISIONARY ARTISTS.

In 2007 ALBUQUERQUE THE MAGAZINE selected her as Best Local Artist and in 2008 and 2011 as Best of the Rest.

She was a featured artist on HGTV's "That's Clever!" where artists demonstrate art projects and techniques.
